Bugs that aren’t able to survive the cold look for shelter during winter. In some cases, this means going underground. However, some bugs look for ways to invade homes, since they have plenty of warmth and shelter. Bugs might be lurking in your walls, basement, attic or other areas of your home during winter if they find a way in. Keep in mind that bugs can get through tiny cracks in your home. Once they’re inside, you might not see them until spring comes. These overwintering bugs might not be a problem in winter, but they can suddenly become a nuisance in spring.
Hibernating
Some bugs go into a state that’s kind of like hibernation. This state, called diapause, causes their development to slow or pause during winter.
Freezing
Springtails and some other bugs are able to freeze themselves to survive the cold. These bugs produce anti-freezing agents to help them get through winter until warmer temperatures arrive.
