Pantry Pests Plague NJ Residents in the Summer

During summer, it’s not just flies and ants that you have to worry about when it comes to pests in your kitchen. Several pantry pests can get into your food supplies as well, forcing you to toss food out and replace it. Some pests can also cause gastrointestinal problems if you eat contaminated food. The following are just a few pantry pests you might need NJ pest control services for this summer.

Rice Weevils

Rice weevils are tiny pests with a reddish-brown color. They only grow to about 1/8 of an inch. Rice weevils lay eggs inside grains of rice and similar foods, which allows the larvae to eat their way out. These pests can be hard to detect, but you might see adult weevils moving around inside boxes when you shake them.

Indian Meal Moths

Indian meal moths have two-toned wings with a coppery coloring. These moths get inside boxes or other containers of food and leave webbing behind. Indian meal moths don’t live long, but they’re able to reproduce at a rapid rate.

Cigarette Beetles

Cigarette beetles have a light brownish color and a humpbacked shape. They tend to be attracted to smoke, which is how they got their name, but they’re also drawn to many other substances, including powdered milk.
