Thirty-four Spider Species Found in New Jersey – What to Know

When it comes to spiders, NJ is home to 34 species. You’ve probably seen at least a few of these species in or around your home. While spiders can be beneficial to have around, they can also become nuisances when they’re in your home. Find out more about some of these species and when to get professional pest control in Monmouth County for them.

Weaver Spiders

Weaver spider species are generally harmless to people. They’re mainly found outside building elaborate webs in gardens and backyards, where they feed on common insect pests. A few of these species include the cross orb weaver, the black lace weaver and the spotted orb weaver.

Jumping Spiders

Jumping spiders are also common in NJ. These spiders don’t bite, although they can startle you with their leaping behavior. You might find these species, such as the emerald jumping spider, zebra jumpers and canopy jumping spider, in your home.

Sac Spiders

Sac spider species are also not a threat to humans. These spiders spend the day resting inside a sac and come out at night to look for prey. A few of these species include the long-legged sac spider and the broad-faced sac spider.
