Spiders Love Setting Up Their Home Near Your Backyards Bright Lights

While spiders play a valuable role in keeping insect populations down, they can become a nuisance. Some spiders build webs in inconvenient places, while others can be a risk to people and pets due to their bites. NJ pest control can help you get a spider problem under control, but did you know that there are also a few things you can do on your own to keep spiders away?

Limit Outdoor Light Usage

Spiders are drawn to bright outdoor lights in yards. If you have these lights on your home exterior, porch, deck, or other areas, you might find spider webs in these spots. Why do spiders build webs in brightly lit areas? Those outdoor lights draw more bugs to your home and yard, which provides spiders with plenty of food sources. You don’t have to keep outdoor lights to prevent spiders. Instead, consider using a timer that turns them on and off at certain times.

Switch Your Outdoor Bulbs

LED lights tend to attract moths, mosquitoes, and other bugs. Incandescent lights can do this as well due to their brightness. Changing to bulbs with a lower wattage won’t draw as many bugs, giving spiders fewer food sources. Consider using bulbs with a yellowish glow, such as sodium vapor bulbs, which aren’t as bright as bulbs that give off a whitish glow.
