The Cricket – an Annoying Pest Insect

Crickets can seem harmless when you hear them chirping outside. However, if they get into your home you might not appreciate their noise quite as much. Here’s what you should know about crickets, including when to get professional pest control in Monmouth County for infestations.

Types of Crickets

NJ has several different types of crickets that can become a problem inside houses.

– Field crickets: These are typically black and grow to be at least a half-inch long. They mainly stay outside, but they can find their way indoors.

– House crickets: These are a lighter brown or yellowish-brown color and can grow to 3/4 of an inch long. House crickets commonly enter homes and can thrive indoors. These crickets can damage household items by chewing on them.

Camel back crickets: These large crickets are a light or dark brown color and can grow to be 1.5 inches long. Also known as cave crickets, they sometimes enter basements or crawlspaces.

Signs of Crickets

In addition to seeing crickets in your home, you might also hear them. Field and house crickets chirp at night. Camel back crickets don’t chirp, but they do jump at people who approach them. Crickets in general can reproduce in homes and form larger infestations.
