How to Identify a Rodent Problem in New Jersey

Mice and rats are experts at staying hidden as much as possible. This can make it hard to know if you have a rodent problem in your home. Unfortunately, rodent infestations can become severe when these pests go undetected. If you have any of the following signs of rodent infestations, plan on calling a local exterminator in NJ.

Rat or Mouse Droppings

Rodents leave droppings on floors and other surfaces while they scurry around looking for food. Rat droppings tend to be bigger than mouse droppings, but both are dark in color. Keep in mind that you might find rodent droppings inside kitchen drawers, cabinets, and other areas that are hidden. Wear gloves while cleaning up droppings, since they often have germs.

Gnaw or Chew Marks

Check packages of food in your pantry or kitchen cupboards. You might see chew marks on them if rodents have been trying to break them open. You might also see gnaw marks on walls and other surfaces around your home.

Nesting Materials

Rats and mice typically use shredded paper and similar materials to construct nests. You might not see their nests, since they could be inside walls, but you might find bits of nesting materials scattered around.

What to Do About a Rodent Problem

Don’t handle rats or mice on your own. These rodents can bite and scratch, which puts you at risk of diseases. Have professional pest control technicians deal with a rat or mouse infestation in your home. They can remove these pests and provide guidance on keeping them out from now on.
