Quick Tips to Identify The Ants in Your NJ Home


When you have ants in your home, knowing what kind you’re dealing with is important. This helps determines how to deal with an ant problem and prevent more from happening. The following tips can help you identify ants that invade NJ homes. You can also search for exterminators in my area for additional help.

Common Features

While ants can differ in terms of appearance, all ants share some common features. Ants have a pair of bent antennae on their head, as well as a pinched or narrow area between their abdomen and thorax. Some ants have one bump or node in this area, while others have two nodes. Some ants, including queens and certain males, have wings, but most ants don’t.

Color

Ants are usually a brownish or black color. However, some ants are reddish, yellowish, or a red and black color. Being able to identify ants based on color can be difficult.

Size

Ants come in a variety of sizes, with some being as much as a half-inch long or as little as 1/20 of an inch in length. Carpenter ants are among the biggest types of ants.

Ants vs. Termites

You might confuse termites and ants in your home, but they have different characteristics. Termites have straight antennae and a thick waist.
