Termites

What Species of Termites Live in New Jersey?

Termites can quickly take over your home if you don’t get help from a Rumson NJ exterminator in time. Since there are different types of termites in NJ, you should know these basic facts about them. They can help you figure out which kind have invaded your home. Without prompt treatment, termites of any kind can cause structural damage to homes.

Subterranean Termite

Subterranean termites are the type that invade many NJ homes. These common termites consume cellulose in wood, including wooden beams and other structures inside houses. Swarms of eastern subterranean termites usually take to the air between March and May while looking for places to build satellite colonies.

Dark southeastern subterranean termites typically swarm between March and June each year. This means you might spot discarded wings near your doors and windows or see these pests flying around at these times.

Drywood Termite

Drywood termites usually aren’t found in NJ. However, they can get into homes when they sneak a ride on wood items, such as furniture, that are from other places.

Formosa Termite

Formosa termites aren’t currently a problem in NJ, but they could find their way here soon. These invasive termites are able to build huge colonies, which can make them incredibly tough to get rid of.
