Ants Commonly Found In New Jersey – Part One

NJ is home to all kinds of ant species that can give homeowners headaches. Some of these species are around more often than others, especially in summer. Learn more about a few of the ant species that you might end up needing a NJ ant exterminator for.

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants spend their time digging away at the wood inside your walls and other areas of your home. They don’t eat wood like termites do, but they still cause a considerable amount of damage when they chew through it to make tunnels.

How do you know if you have carpenter ants? Look for ants that are black and one-quarter inch or larger around your home. You might also see signs of wood damage.

Acrobat Ants

Acrobat ants have an unusual name that they get from the way they raise their abdomen above their head when they feel threatened. These ants forage for food in homes and can be a fire risk if they chew or damage wiring inside walls. They might also bite when disturbed.

You can tell you have these ants by the movements they make and their appearance. Acrobat ants are about one-eighth of an inch long and have a light brown or black color.

If you need help with an ant problem, Allison Pest Control can help. Give us a call, and we’ll send a NJ ant exterminator over to handle it.
