What Do You NOT Know About Mosquitoes?

You know that mosquitoes bite people, feed on blood and mainly come out in the evening and at night, but did you know that some species are active during the day? The invasive Asian tiger mosquito is around when it’s light out. Learn a few more interesting facts about these bugs.

They Don’t Live Long

Mosquitoes only have a life span of about two months or less, so individuals aren’t around that long. However, females can lay up to 300 eggs at once, which means that there are always plenty of these pests around. This is why it’s better to leave NJ mosquito treatment to the professionals.

They Like Sweat and Other Scents

Being sweaty, wearing perfume or having lotion on your skin can make you more likely to be bitten by mosquitoes. These bugs are drawn to certain odors on human skin, then use heat sensors to determine the best area to bite.

Their Biggest Predators Aren’t Bats

While it’s common to think that bats eat a lot of mosquitoes, they actually don’t. Dragonflies and fish are the biggest predators of mosquitoes. Fish feed on mosquito larvae in the water, while dragonflies feed on both larvae and adult mosquitoes, which helps reduce their populations.

Mosquitoes shouldn’t ruin your summer plans. Contact Allison Pest Control for NJ mosquito treatment if you end up with these biting pests in your yard.
