Vaccine For Dangerous Mosquito-Transmitted Zika Virus Proven Successful In Preliminary Studies

The Zika virus can be a serious threat to some individuals in the U.S., including pregnant women, as mosquitoes that carry this virus become more widespread. However, a UConn researcher has developed a vaccine that could provide protection from this virus. In the meantime, you should have a Spring Lake NJ exterminator treat your yard for mosquitoes to be safe.

Zika Vaccine

Researcher Paulo Verardi has been working on a vaccine for the Zika virus to help lower its risks to developing fetuses. The Zika virus carries a risk of causing serious birth defects in fetuses, including microcephaly, when pregnant women are infected.

Verardi received funding and immediately began working on a vaccine by using Zika’s genetic sequence. The approach his vaccine takes is to create virus-like particles that help the immune system learn to identify and destroy the Zika virus. Tests done on mice have shown that this vaccine is effective at offering protection.

Mosquito Prevention

The Zika virus vaccine isn’t ready to be used in humans yet, so it’s still important to protect yourself and your family from mosquitoes. Having your yard treated, wearing mosquito repellent and getting rid of standing water in your yard are among the ways that you can stay safe from mosquitoes when you’re outside this summer.

If you need help dealing with mosquitoes in your yard, contact Allison Pest Control. Our Spring Lake NJ exterminator can provide you with effective protection against mosquitoes.
