Signs of an Early Spring Termite Infestation – What to Know

This spring, take time to go around your home looking for signs of a termite infestation. The earlier you find these signs, the better your chances are at preventing severe damage to your NJ home. Professional pest control services in Monmouth County can eliminate termite infestations in your home before they become a serious problem.

Holes

You might find holes in wood around your home, such as in window sills and near doors. Other areas to check include your deck, wood paneling, wood stairs and wood floors. Look for small, round holes in wood, which can indicate a termite infestation.

Cracks

Termites consume the cellulose in wood from the inside and work their way out. This can result in cracks in the wood in your home. You might also notice a hollow sound when wood has been chewed through.

Droppings

Watch for small piles of powder that look like sawdust. Drywood termites can leave these droppings near areas of wood in your home.

Mud Tubes

Termites construct mud tubes that go from their colony to home exteriors. They use these tubes to go back and forth from their colony to their food supply. You might find these on your siding or foundation.
