New Jersey Wasp Identification Tips

Nothing can ruin a fun summer afternoon outside like having to deal with wasps buzzing around you. These insects can sting numerous times and even attack in large numbers if you get too close to a nest. Learn more about identifying common NJ wasps and when to get NJ pest control services to help you with these bugs.

Paper Wasps

Paper wasps are typically a brownish color with red or yellow markings. They build nests out of material that resembles paper. These nests, which are often shaped like umbrellas, can be found in trees, bushes, eaves, railings and other parts of your yard or home exterior.

Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets get their name from the distinctive yellow and black coloring. These wasps build paper nests that have a rounded shape. Some yellowjackets make their nests in the ground, while others build their nests in trees, garages, houses and other residential areas.

Mud Daubers

Mud daubers are mainly black with some markings on them that are usually a pale color. These wasps live alone rather than in colonies and make nests out of mud. These tube-shaped nests can be found hanging on porch ceilings, sheds and eaves, as well as inside houses in attics or walls.
