New Naturally Derived Pesticide by Penn State May Solve Our Bed Bug Problem

Why Bed Bugs Returned

Penn State Bioinsecticides

Researchers at Penn State are well aware of the pesticide problem with bed bugs. They’ve been working on creating what are known as bioinsecticides as a way to handle this problem. These pest control methods involve using fungal bioinsecticides to control certain pest populations. These have been used successfully on flies and mosquitoes, but what about bed bugs?

Penn State researchers found that these natural pest control methods are effective at eliminating bed bugs. They only had to spray the biopesticides on surfaces where bed bugs were found or likely to go. The biopesticides then worked as bed bugs picked up the fungal spores. Known as Aprehend spray, this product is now making its way to the market for use in commercial businesses.
